Osman devised global and local zonation schemes throughout the stratigraphic column [Jurassic- Recent]. Published zonation schemes include the Neogene nannofossil zonztion for South East Asia [Varol, 1983], Palaeocene [Varol, 1989] and Paleogene [Varol, 1998] for the North Sea Area and the Palaeocene for the worldwide use [Varol, 1989]. Cenozoic to Jurassic global zonations were established [unpublished]. Local unpublished zonation schemes include Vietnam, Philippines, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kuwait, Oman, Angola, Gabon and South America.

Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy

Osman experienced and applied nannofossil biostratigraphy to the seismic sequence studies within the Egyptian Red Sea as part of Red Sea World Bank/United Nations project and for the ONGC-commissioned Krishna Godavari Seismic Sequence study on the east coast of India. For the latter study, he was the biostratigraphy co-ordinator.

Nannofossil biostratigraphy is the separation and differentiation of rock units on the basis of the description and study of the nannofossils they contain.
There are four main type of biostratigraphic Zonation:

The global events used here were presented in Time Scale Creator (Gradstein et al.2012). Their absolute ages were calibrated using magneto- and radiometric stratigraphy.
The absolute ages of the additional events used here were calibrated using global nannofossil events and or events of other biostratigraphic disciplines and/or wireline logs. The Time/Depth curve is used for the calibration of the additional events.
