Coccolithus grandis Bramlette & Riedel, 1954
Very Large (>15.0µm] species of Chiasmolithus has a tube cycle with four small conjuncts teeth-like projections along the principal axes.
The original publication fails to recognise the teeth-like projections. Therefore, the holotype of Chiasmolithus grandis is identical to that of Coccolithus expansus Bramlette & Sullivan (1961). The latter authors reanalysed the material from the type locality and amended the description of Chiasmolithus grandis to include teeth-like projections. This amendment is undoubtedly arguable since Bramlette & Sullivan (1961) did not perform the amendation on the original slide or sample.
