Discoaster bengalica Varol & Bowman, 2024
A symmetrical pentagonal species has segments with tapering arms with bifurcated terminations. The distinct proximal ridges without any knob decorate the proximal side, and sutural ridges created by the deep cavities are present on the distal side.
After the holotype area, the Bay of Bengal.
Maximum diameter: 9.84 µm, Diameter of the central area: 3.94 µm, Length of arms: 2.95 µm, Diameter of the proximal knob: 3.37 µm (measurements from bright field micrograph)
Discoaster bengalica and Discoaster asymmetroivrachiones have pentagonal outlines. Discoaster bengalica is a symmetrical species with tapering arms with bifurcated termination, whereas Discoaster asymmetroivrachiones have an asymmetrical outline with strongly tapering arms without bifurcations.
