Discoaster catillomicros de Kaenel & Bergen in de Kaenel et al., 2017
Emended description: Relatively small six-segmented species have very short arms (much less than one-third of the central area diameter), a large central area ornamented with prominent sutural ridges created by deep cavities on the distal side and a proximal platform constructed by the ridges on the bulging central area. The inner-arm areas are very shallow but very wide. Careful focus is required to identify the proximal platform.
Discoaster catillomicros differs from Discoaster pugliesei and Discoaster stellimicros by having very shallow but very wide inter-arm areas, whereas Discoaster pugliesei has round, almost enclosed inter-arm areas and Discoaster stellimicros half moon-shape deeper inner-arm areas. The presence of distinct sutural ridges and deep cavities differentiate Discoaster catillomicros from Discoaster micros.
