Discoaster leios Varol & Bowman, 2024
Six segmented discoasters have short, robust arms with a wide bifurcation. The inter-arm area is narrow and rounded. Wide proximal ridges decorate the strongly bulged proximal side, whilst the distal side is smooth without any decoration.
From the Greek leios, smooth - refers to its appearance in the plan view.
Maximum diameter: 6.54 µm, Diameter of the central area: 4.16 µm, Length of the arms: 1.19 µm, Maximum height: 6.16 µm (measurements from bright field micrograph).
Discoaster leios differs from Discoaster premicros by having a strongly bulged proximal side and rounded inter-arm areas, whereas the latter has a gently bulged proximal side and V-shaped inter-arm areas.
