Olladiscoaster exagonikoasteri Varol & Bowman, 2024

Diagnosis

Hexagonal species of Olladiscoaster have segments without arms. On the distal side, the distinct sutural ridges are created by the deep cavities. The sutural ridges are almost aligned to the vertices of the species and are distinctly raised towards the centre and capped by boomerang-shaped distal covers. The distinct proximal ridges without a knob decorate the bulged proximal side. From the side view, Olladiscoaster exagonikoasteri resembles a child’s top.

Etymology

From the Greek exagoniko asteri, a hexagonal star – refers to its outline.

Dimensions Of Holotype

Maximum diameter: 7.07 µm, Maximum height: 5.08 µm (measurements from bright field micro-graph).

Remarks

Olladiscoaster exagonikoasteri and Olladiscoaster perplexus have hexagonal outlines, and their sutural ridges are almost aligned with the vertices of the species. Olladiscoaster exagonikoasteri differs from Olladiscoaster perplexus by having a boomerang shape distal cover and lacking a proximal knob, whereas the latter has a kite shape distal cover and a hexagon-stellate proximal knob.
