Etymology

From the Greek diorofos toichos, meaning two-storey wall, referring to its characteristic two-crystalline-high wall.

Diagnosis

This elliptical holococcolith features a two-crystalline high wall surrounding a central area filled with a disjunct structure. Each storey consists of about eight crystalline units.

Optical Properties

In the plan views, the disjunct central structure and the wall display symmetrical extinction lines at an angle of approximately 45 °, indicative of a rhombohedral crystal structure.

Remarks

Diorofostoichos can be distinguished from the other two-storey genera, Didimospyrgos and Perideraiolithos, by its symmetrical extinction lines, in contrast to the inclined extinction lines seen in Didimospyrgos and Perideraiolithos. Furthermore, Diorofostoichos is differentiated from Munarius, Multipartis, and Russelia by its two-crystalline-high wall structure, whereas these latter genera possess one-crystalline-high walls.
