Final Epithet
Lotharingius okadae (Fernando, 2014) Varol, n. comb.
Basionym

Watznaueria okadai Fernando, 2014

Description

Species of Lotharingius are characterised by single-tiered distal and proximal shields, narrow tube cycles, and a central area spanned by an axial cross whose orientation is rotated relative to the long axis of the coccolith.

Optical Properties

Under cross-polarised light in plan view, the shields and tube cycles display first-order white interference colours and are characterised by inclined extinction lines and length-fast (–) elongation. Extinction angles of approximately 71° are observed on the distal side in both structures. The axial cross, which is rotated relative to the long axis of the coccolith, exhibits first-order greyish-white interference colours.
