In the past, Rotelapillus crenulatus has often been erroneously assigned to Cylindralithus laffittei (Noël, 1957) Black, 1973. However, the holotype of Cylindralithus laffittei exhibits a markedly different morphology, characterised by a cross-shaped central structure, whereas Rotelapillus crenulatus possesses eight radial bars.
