Final Epithet
Ceratolithoides aculeus (Stradner, 1961) Prins & Sissingh in Sissingh, 1977
Basionym

Zygrhablithus aculeus Stradner, 1961

Variants

Ceratolithoides brevicorniculans Burnett, 1997b

Ceratolithoides sesquipedalis Burnett, 1997b

Ceratolithoides prominens Burnett, 1997b

Ceratolithoides dongenii Lees, 2007

Ceratolithoides ohalloraniae Lees, 2007

Holotype

Stradner (1961) designated the holotype, but the designation unfortunately encompasses all five to six illustrated specimens. As a result, the name is invalid under ICN Article 9.1, which requires that a holotype consist of a single specimen or a single illustration.

Remarks

Species of Ceratolithoides are characterised by a prominent apical cone bearing multiple rows of longitudinal beaded elements. The apical cone is substantially taller than the horns, constituting the principal vertical component of the structure.
