Placolith elliptical to subcircular. Distal shield composed of non-imbricated segments; median and proximal shields well developed, forming a tripartite shield structure. Central area spanned by an axial cross supported by a tube cycle and bearing a hollow distal process. Arms of the axial cross composed of longitudinal segments arranged in two opposing halves, widening near the tube cycle.
The distal shield is in constant extinction because the optic axis (c-axis) is perpendicular to the microscope stage, whereas the proximal shield and the tube cycle exhibit interference colours with inclined extinction.
Axopodorhabdus albianus differs from other species of Axopodorhabdus in possessing three superposed (tiered) shields, a feature not observed in other representatives of the genus.
