Discolithus reticulatus Górka, 1963
From the Falkland Islands and Greek lithos (stone), referring to the occurrence of the genus in this region.
The placolith comprises a cretarhabdid pelaga sloping towards the central area, formed of inclined segments that are commonly weakly clockwise-imbricated and only rarely non-imbricate, and a distally arched central area characterised by quadrilateral pores arranged either irregularly or in a discernible pattern.
The central area lacks a typical axial cross and a distal process.
In plan view under crossed polars, the pelaga displays first-order, greyish-white to white interference colours, with inclined extinction and length-fast (–) elongation. The central area is typically dimmer, exhibiting whitish-grey interference colours, but may occasionally show greyish-white tones.
