Aktasia parvoturonico Varol, in prep.
Small species of Aktasia (<6.0 µm) with a zeugoid outer wall and a protolith inner wall composed of eight large, sub-quadrilateral segments. The central area is spanned by an axial cross lacking a distal process; the arms of the cross consist of parallel longitudinal segments arranged in two halves.
From Latin parvus, small, and turonica, referring to its similarity to Aktasia turonica but smaller size.
As for the genus Aktasia.
Aktasia parvoturonica is distinguished from Aktasia turonica by its smaller size (<6.0 µm); both species possess an axial cross. Aktasia parvoturonica differs from other small species, such as Aktasia trabeculata and Aktasia compacta, in having an axial cross, whereas the latter species possess symmetrical and asymmetrical diagonal crosses, respectively.
