Watznaueria leesiae Young, 2023

Description

Elliptical species of Watznaueria measuring greater than 8.0 µm in length and characterised by a closed central area.

Optical Properties

In plan view under cross-polarised light, the holotype of Watznaueria leesiae exhibits inclined extinction, with extinction angles of approximately 79° in the shield and 2° in the tube cycles. The dextrogyre extinction lines suggest that the specimen is lying on its proximal side, although this interpretation remains uncertain because the possibility that the specimen was rotated during montage preparation cannot be excluded. The locking cycle exhibits interference colours, producing a transitional boundary between the tube cycle and shield.
