In plan view under cross-polarised light, the wall and, where developed, the proto inner wall remain in constant extinction.
Loxolith calcareous nannofossils are characterised by a single wall, commonly with a proto inner wall, and central structures such as axial or diagonal crosses, transverse bars or radial bars. These central structures may or may not support a distal process.
